Create a Christmas Masterpiece

Published: 01/11/2024

It won’t be long before baubles and fairy lights are brought out of their hiding places and your house is awash with festive spirit. Decorating for Christmas doesn’t have to stop at the traditional tree. This year, why not adorn your home with the seasonal splendour of festive floral arrangements.

Whether you start from scratch, swap your Summery faux flowers for more Wintery colours, tweak your flower mix ratio to be more foliage and berry heavy, or go all out with sparkling gold and silver accents, faux flowers and foliage offer the perfect opportunity to create a Christmas Masterpiece.

Start with the basics

We favour using an odd number of flowers, placed asymmetrically in an arrangement to create a modern display that is pleasing to the eye. Visualise your display as a work of art, experimenting with the lengths of each stem and ensuring your arrangement has balance. This doesn’t mean you have to have identical flowers on each side. Group flowers together in bunches before you start and add taller twigs and foliage to create height and drama.

Finish with a tight-necked, opaque, or coloured vase like our Zen Slim White Ceramic Vase or Eva Glazed Pottery Vase to ensure your faux flowers are kept in place, and your final arrangement looks generously full. If you have adjusted the stem lengths but not cut them off, vases like these will hide the folded back sections perfectly.

How to add some festive flair

Once you have your base of flowers, it’s time to bring Christmas into the mix. A few of our favourite ways to tie your faux flower displays into your overarching Christmas décor is to add to it pieces you associate with the season. Whether that’s pine fronds, berries, ivy or mistletoe, or even a gold or silver twig, you can create an eye-catching bouquet when you surround your flowers with the following festive stems:

     1. Faux Berries

One of our favourite ways to add a festive flourish to our bouquets is to incorporate some Faux Berries. Crimson berries or ruby red rosehips will instantly provide your arrangement with that ‘just picked on a Winter’s walk’ feel.

Leaving the berry stems longer than the flowers, intersperse your artificial berries throughout your flower mix. Have them peeking out of the top and edges of your arrangement beside shimmering metallic foliage for an impact similar to our Faux Chrysanthemum, Berry & Fern Bouquet.

     2. Snow-tipped foliage

Winter landscapes are dominated by evergreen foliage and wintery twigs. Bring the outside in by changing the balance of your arrangements so there is more foliage and less flowers in your vase.

The pared-back, neutral look of ice white flowers can create a spectacular festive display. Combine with snow-tipped foliage that adds height and structure without blocking the view of the star of your arrangement. A favourite of ours, that provides just this, is the Winter Chill Eucalyptus that you can find in our Faux Hellebore & Mistletoe Bouquet.

If you want to embrace a fully white Christmas, create a bouquet that is covered in snow. Our Snowstorm range of delicately frosted flowers is perfect for such arrangements. Combining wintery Hellebore with large Peony blooms dusted in snow, offset by sparkling silver twigs is the recipe behind our stunning Faux Snowstorm Peony Bouquet.

     3. Metallic accents

Christmas is the perfect time of year to make the most of all that artificial flowers have to offer. As amazing as nature is, it’s tricky to grow Metallic Eucalyptus and Sparkling Cedar in the wild. With faux flowers, all types of creations are possible.

Accent your natural-looking bouquets with gold and silver foliage for the most striking of displays. An arrangement like our Faux Hydrangea & Sparkle Cedar Bouquet combines rich, indulgent colours with luxury golden tones that really bring out the wow factor.

     4. Christmas Reds

If any flower colour says Christmas, it’s surely red! Red faux flowers are complemented beautifully by variegated green foliage stems, the lightness of the leaf keeping the arrangement from being too sombre.

Alongside Christmas classics like Poinsettia, Roses and Hydrangeas also look great in red. Pair them with your favourite seasonal foliage like the Mini Pine Cone Spray and French Ivy for a look as luxurious as our Faux Rose & Smilax Bouquet.

     5. Deep Pinks

For a contemporary spin on the traditional red, try something a little different. Deep pink flowers nestled beside opulent red Eucalyptus and sparkling metallic foliage will create a dramatic wintery look.

Our Faux Hydrangea & Thistle Bouquet is the epitome of an opulent, seasonal mix. Arrange in a dark coloured vase to perfectly complement these rich, luxurious colours.

Whether you design an arrangement with a subtle nod to the season or opt for vases full of sparkling stems, the versatility of faux flowers and foliage are a great way to reflect your festive style and deliver a touch of Christmas magic. We look forward to seeing what you create!
