The Tree, the Wreath and the Garlands
First things first – the tree of course! By opting for a good quality artificial Christmas tree, you can not only get the benefits of a lifelike tree without the clean-up, but you can also store it in a safe place and get it back out time after time, rather than cutting down a new one each year. Or if you’re on the hunt for something alternative, LED birch trees and smaller, tabletop styles like wooden and bristle trees are lovely reusable options.
The same applies to good quality wreaths and garlands, just avoid those adorned with plastic accessories and glittery decorations as these don’t tend to be made using sustainable materials.
The Cards & the Gift Wrap
Many rolls of wrapping paper and greetings cards contain non-recyclable elements like foil, glitter or plastic. Look for products with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) mark. This guarantees the paper has been produced sustainably and ethically. We’ve been proud to incorporate a stunning selection of FSC approved and sustainable papier mâché decorations into our Christmas decoration range this year.
Once the festive period is over, recycle or compost your cards - you can even turn them into decorations, or gift tags for next year.
Sustainable Decorations at Floralsilk
Our simple yet eye-catching folded concertina and honeycomb style paper designs are the perfect way to add an environmentally friendly touch to your tree and Christmas décor.
From tree toppers to table decorations, and of course paper baubles – our FSC paper range is made from Forest Stewardship Council approved, responsibly sourced wood pulp. Enjoy bold and beautiful stars, delicate snowflakes and angels, or traditional round baubles and pretty paper trees, that are all 100% recyclable. If stored carefully, they can even be used again and again, making them an even more sustainable option.
Alternatively, treat yourself to something a little different this festive season with our natural, papier mâché baubles. Handcrafted from the waste products of the textile industry, complete with a hand painted finish, these cute, festive decorations are another great way to embrace sustainability this Christmas.
The slightly irregular shape of each papier mâché bauble provides a beautifully hand-crafted look that adds to their charm. Not only this, but as they are crafted from recycled cotton, they themselves are fully recyclable when the time comes.
Make Christmas 2024 the year you enhance your festive décor with sustainability, reuse everything you possibly can, and incorporate an adorable addition – or a few! – from our fully recycled and recyclable range.
