Welcome Christmas In: How To Decorate Your Doorway & Entrance Halls

Published: 25/10/2024

Avoid overwhelming yourself with decorating to-dos by taking it one step at a time. First things first, start at the front of your house. By creating a welcoming wonderland to greet your guests with when they visit your home, you will set the tone for the rest of your décor.

Here’s how you can kick start your season’s greetings and elevate the festive ambience of your entranceway with artificial wreaths, garlands, floral arrangements and more.

 1. Choose a decorating theme

Before diving into the details, decide on a theme for your Christmas décor. We suggest choosing a colour scheme that complements your interiors, finished with an accent colour that ties your theme together and adds a pop of interest. Alongside this, decide on a selection of coordinating textures, such as natural woods, felts and ceramics.

To obtain a traditional aesthetic, you could set the tone with classic red and green shades. For a more pared back look, opt for silvery, ice white pieces. Deep, rich colours with metallic accents will give you that luxury feel, while natural, sustainable materials like wood, felt and paper will offer a cosy, elegant finish. You could even opt to go all out with Christmas cheer and have fun, novelty pieces running throughout your scheme.

2. Adorn your front door with a beautiful wreath

Artificial wreaths are a must when it comes to decorating your front door. There are many styles available, each creating a different look so consider your theme before choosing. Some of our favourites include a traditional wreath, complete with berries and pinecones, if this is your taste look no further than our Faux Barholm Berry Pine Wreath. For a natural, earthy feeling with a unique and beautiful shape, our Waxed Pine Wreath is definitely the one. Or if you’d like a whimsical, frost laden feel, our Castle Bytham Wreath with Hellebore and Cones is perfect. But we also have so many more!

Once you’ve settled on your perfect front door adornment, carry this theme through to your hallway and beyond with matching products. Most of our Christmas wreaths, garlands, flowers, and foliage have coordinating items available to help you do just this.

     3. Elevate your entranceway

In your entranceway, start by lining porch tables, windowsills or shelves with garlands that complement your wreath. This makes for the perfect base. You can then add a selection of tabletop decorations, miniature Christmas trees, and floral arrangements to suit your decorating theme. If you don’t have a table or surface to use, you can add a touch of Christmas magic with a floor-standing decoration. Beautifully wrapped empty boxes are a great way to fill gaps and complete your space while you wait for the real presents to arrive.

Add a touch of cosy Christmas lighting to your hallway with pre-lit decorations. Differing heights can add depth and interest to your arrangement. Group together different sized wooden or ceramic houses, matched with ceramic or bristle trees in the same style and colour for the perfect display you can use year after year.

We have some beautiful choices ranging from quaintly lit porcelain houses, and wooden tabletop trees to sweet felt mice, everyone’s favourite Gonk, and everything in between.

     4. Spruce up your staircase

Continue on through your house to the staircase, a central part of your home, and the perfect place for a festive focal point. Wind bountiful garlands around your banister and place large lanterns or floor-standing décor on the bottom few steps.

A pared back piece like our Artificial Cedar Pine Garland not only looks stunning on its own, but also makes for a beautiful base to adorn with baubles, clip on decorations, flower stems and fairy lights, whatever suits your decorating theme. Alternatively, choose a piece that does all the work for you like our Pre Lit Pine Garland with Cones and Berries or our Wilsthorpe Gold Leaf and Berry Garland.

     5. Add the finishing touches

For the final flourish, add warmth and ambience by lighting the candles inside your lanterns, candle holders or upon the stands that complement your theme. Switch on the fairy lights, or LEDs within your tabletop and floor standing decorations, and embrace the Christmas sparkle in your home.

Having guests over is one of the many joys of the festive season. Invite them in with the perfect decorations and you’re sure to get everyone in the Christmas spirit - a mulled wine and a mince pie on entry won’t hurt either. Happy decorating!
